The presence of high percentages of foreign students urgently re-proposes the issue of integration with “the different” and imposes on today’s school a structural rethinking that represents a new educational and training “challenge.”
In a multi-ethnic societal context in which diversity combined with the variety of migrant subjects adds to the differences already present in the territories, it is a SCHOOL that we meet and compare different cultures; multiculturalism becomes immediately visible and the classroom a privileged and strategic zone for building interculturality.
In this sense, in the realities of our country, from North to South, where substantial migration flows have made schools take on a ‘multifaceted’ aspect, forms based on confrontation, tools for the valorization and equal dignity of different cultures have been developed and teaching-learning processes open to cultural intermediation have been experimented with.
The training event “MONDiNSIEME. Migrations, schools, integrations” starts from the assumption that multiculturalism, that is, the coexistence of different cultures, today as in the past, is an added value and represents new richness that enhances relationships between individuals, groups and cultures.
Therefore, in S. Demetrio Corone, the heart of the Arbereshe culture, new perspectives, study elements and experimental methods are proposed with the presence of the Calabrian ethnic minorities, with the fil- rouge of confrontation between ” old” and ” new minorities.”
